Softball Recap: Liberty Has No Trouble Against Westside

Liberty's game last Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by an 11-3 margin over the WestSide Renegades. The victory continues a trend for the Raiders in their matchups with the Renegades: they've now won six in a row.

Maddie Cox made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Those hits marked the first that she allowed this season. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Alyssa Scarbro and Katie Mullens did most of the damage at the plate: Scarbro scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5, while Mullens scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. That's the most runs Mullens has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Emma Hartshorn, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Liberty kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Liberty now has a winning record of 4-3. As for WestSide, their loss was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-3.

Coming up, Liberty will head out on the road to face off against Oak Hill at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Red Devils will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Raiders surely won't give up without a fight. As for WestSide, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Van at 6:00 p.m. The Renegades are facing the Bulldogs at the right time seeing as the Bulldogs are stuck on a seven-game losing streak.
