Basketball Recap: Southern Maryland Christian Academy Comes Up Short

Southern Maryland Christian Academy fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Fredericksburg Christian on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 58-57 to the Fredericksburg Christian Eagles. The Mustangs have struggled against the Eagles recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Layna Thomas was her usual excellent self, going 10 for 20 on her way to 31 points in addition to five rebounds and five steals for Fredericksburg Christian. Those 31 points gave Thomas a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Amri Donado, who posted 12 points along with seven assists and seven steals.

Southern Maryland Christian Academy now has a losing record at 5-6. As for Fredericksburg Christian, their win bumped their record up to 9-6.

Southern Maryland Christian Academy will take on Clinton Grace Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Fredericksburg Christian, they will welcome Trinity Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
