Softball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Bellevue West

Bellevue West waltzed into their game on Wednesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They put the hurt on the Buena Vista Bison with a sharp 10-0 win. That's more bragging rights for the Thunderbirds, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Grace Veik was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Jaycee Woodard was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run. Aubrey Busch was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Bellevue West was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .467. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matchups.

Bellevue West's record now sits at 9-19. As for Buena Vista, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 11 of their last 14 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-17 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bellevue West will host Papillion-LaVista South at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Buena Vista, they will welcome Lincoln Northwest at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Falcons have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.38 runs per game on average), something the Bison will no doubt try to take advantage of.
