Baseball Recap: Mallard Creek's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Mallard Creek came into Tuesday's match having lost five straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the West Mecklenburg Hawks on Tuesday. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Mavericks' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Andrew Brissie made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out ten over six innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March of 2024. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Mallard Creek is 6-1 when Brissie posts two or more runs, but 0-13 otherwise.

In other batting news, Colin McCartney was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. He has become a key player for Mallard Creek: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 3-14 otherwise. Lenton Williams was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Mallard Creek pushed their record up to 6-14 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.7 runs over those games. As for West Mecklenburg, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 13-7.

Mallard Creek will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Hawks: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
