The home team had come away the winner the last six times Staples and St. Joseph had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Wreckers walked away with a 3-1 victory over the Cadets on Friday. That's more bragging rights for the Wreckers, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.
Staples had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-27, 25-18, 25-15, 25-9.
When it comes to explaining why St. Joseph lost, don't look at Sarah Lovett. Despite the final result, she had 13 kills, eight digs, and six aces. Lovett is on a roll when it comes to kills, as she's now had 13 or more in each of the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Mary DeCaro, who had 14 digs.
With the win, Staples broke their three-match losing streak and moved their record to 3-4. As for St. Joseph, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-10.
