Baseball Recap: Old Fort Takes a Loss

Old Fort had lost six straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 6-14 to make it seven. They came up short against the St. Mary Central Catholic Panthers, falling 11-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-1 on Wednesday.

Old Fort saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ryan Adelsperger, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

As for St. Mary Central Catholic, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-10. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 2 run in those games.

On St. Mary Central Catholic's side, Toby Gibson spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on five hits. Gibson has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Blake Finneran, who went 2-for-5 with three RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Will Bruni, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Old Fort will host St. Joseph Central Catholic at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Stockaders are facing the Crimson Streaks at the right time seeing as the Crimson Streaks are stuck on an 18-game losing streak. As for St. Mary Central Catholic, they will be playing at home against Northwood at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
