Softball Game Preview: Navajo Prep Eagles vs. Newcomb Skyhawks

Navajo Prep is 7-2 against Newcomb since May of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Eagles will look to defend their home field against the Skyhawks at 3:00 p.m. Navajo Prep is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 14.9 runs per game this season.

Navajo Prep gave up the first runs on Tuesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They came out on top against Rehoboth Christian by a score of 9-5.

Amia Salazar was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Kira Begay, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, Newcomb was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They came up short against Santa Fe Indian, falling 16-1.

Navajo Prep's victory bumped their record up to 10-5. As for Newcomb, their loss dropped their record down to 3-10.

Navajo Prep took their win against Newcomb when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 11-4 score. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Skyhawks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
