The Trinity Prep Saints will head out to square off against the Master's Academy Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Trinity Prep is headed into the game having just posted their closest win since April 29, 2024 on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 victory over Lake Highland Prep. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Geneva typically has all the answers at home, but on Tuesday Master's Academy proved too difficult a challenge. They put the hurt on the Knights with a sharp 10-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won eight contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
Julian Mercado made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Mercado was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-4.
In other pitching news, Preston Toth looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Trey Seluk, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-5. He has been hot recently, having posted two or more stolen bases the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Cy Smith, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-4.
Master's Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since the start of last season.
Trinity Prep is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.9 runs over those games. As for Master's Academy, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 15-6.
Trinity Prep couldn't quite finish off Master's Academy when the teams last played back in April of 2023 and fell 5-3. Can the Saints avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
