Softball Recap: Juan Diego Catholic Comes Up Short

Juan Diego Catholic fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Providence Hall on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Providence Hall Patriots by a score of 18-17. If the Soaring Eagle were looking for revenge after losing 23-8 to the Patriots when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Olivia Jewkes was cooking despite her team's loss, firing off two home runs, five runs, and four RBI while going 4-for-4. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in runs. Another player making a difference was Avie Hernandez, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two doubles.

Jewkes wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Juan Diego Catholic kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 20 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive matchups.

Juan Diego Catholic's loss dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Providence Hall, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-4 record this season.

Juan Diego Catholic will be playing at home against Judge Memorial Catholic at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Juan Diego Catholic is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season. As for Providence Hall, they are taking a road trip to face off against Summit Academy at 3:30 p.m. on March 27th.
