The East Central Hornets will face off against the Clear Springs Chargers on Saturday. East Central will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
East Central is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They walked away with an 11-7 win over Johnson. East Central's victory was all the more impressive since the Jaguars were averaging only 4.08 runs allowed on the season.
The team relied heavily on Marissa Delgado, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Izzy Estrada, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs.
They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: East Central lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, Clear Springs faced Atascocita in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Chargers came out on top against the Eagles by a score of 5-2.
Jenna Hashaw tossed a big game, pitching six innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits.
At the plate, Erianna Garcia was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one home run. Eryn Polite was another key player, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
Clear Springs has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-7 record this season. As for East Central, their record is now 24-11.
Saturday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. East Central hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .386. However, it's not like Clear Springs struggles in that department as they've averaged .369. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
East Central was able to grind out a solid win over Clear Springs in their previous meeting back in February of 2015, winning 5-2. Will the Hornets repeat their success, or do the Chargers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
