Genoa-Hugo/Karval won the last time they faced Kiowa and things went their way on Saturday too. The Pirates walked away with a 2-0 win over the Indians.

While Genoa-Hugo/Karval won a shutout, things came down to the wire in the second set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-13, 26-24.

Kazlei Vaughn paced Genoa-Hugo/Karval's offense, picking up ten kills. Vaughn got some help from Rylee Kelly and her 14 assists. Kelly also made an impact serving: she shared the team lead in aces with Rylee Corn, each putting up two.

Despite the loss, Kiowa saw an underclassman step up: freshman Emery Kelly had 12 digs and two assists. Kelly has been hot recently, having posted 11 or more digs the last three times she's played.

Genoa-Hugo/Karval's victory bumped their record up to 8-9. As for Kiowa, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-5.

Genoa-Hugo/Karval didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 2-0 defeat against Burlington on the 11th. As for Kiowa, they have also already played their next matchup, a 2-0 loss against Cheraw on the 11th.
