Basketball Recap: Manzano Comes Up Short

Manzano lost against Cibola back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Manzano Monarchs were beaten by the Cibola Cougars 77-47. While losing is never fun, the Monarchs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked 70th, while the Cougars are ranked fifth).

When it comes to explaining why Manzano lost, don't look at Bryce Johnson. Despite the final result, he went 8 of 14 en route to 21 points and five rebounds.

Manzano has been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 11 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season. As for Cibola, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-4.

Manzano didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 70-34 defeat against Sandia on the 28th. As for Cibola, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 70-60 win against Rio Rancho on the 28th.
