Baseball Recap: Spanish Fork Takes Down Brighton in a Playoff Battle

Spanish Fork extended their postseason success on Saturday against Brighton. They walked away with a 7-4 victory over the Bengals. Seven seems to be a good number for the Dons as the team scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Jackie Sorenson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has become a key player for Spanish Fork: the team is 3-1 when he allows at most one hit, but 15-16 otherwise. Sorenson was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Nixon Warren, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. Spanish Fork is undefeated when Warren posts two or more stolen bases, but 12-17 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Trigg Cloward, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI.

Spanish Fork hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Spanish Fork now has a winning record of 18-17. As for Brighton, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 28-5.

As of now, neither Spanish Fork nor the Bengals have any future games scheduled.
