Baseball Game Preview: Wahkiakum Mules vs. Naselle Comets

Wahkiakum and Naselle are an even 4-4 against one another since March of 2015, but likely not for long. The Mules will square off against the Comets at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Wahkiakum is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.

While Wahkiakum's victory against Ocosta wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Mules had just enough and edged out the Wildcats 5-4.

Emory Filkowski tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Cooper Carlson, who went 3-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one run. Carlson is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Matthew Wills, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

Meanwhile, while Naselle put up plenty of runs on Friday, the same can't be said for Oakville. The Comets blew past the Acorns 13-0. The Comets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matches by ten runs or more this season.

Naselle's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-3. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Wahkiakum, their record now sits at 7-1.

Wahkiakum suffered a grim 12-2 defeat to Naselle in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Mules avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
