The Duanesburg Eagles will venture away from home to take on the Fonda-Fultonville Valley Hawks at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Fonda-Fultonville will be up against a hot Duanesburg squad: the team just extended their winning streak to four. The Eagles' pitchers stepped up to hand Mekeel Christian Academy a 14-0 shutout on Monday.
Collin Lussier was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Lussier was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, Evan Williams was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in May of 2024. Ayden Fall was another key player, earning one RBI, one run, and one stolen base.
Duanesburg always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .533 or higher in three consecutive matchups.
Fonda-Fultonville came out on top against Galway on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run second inning. The Valley Hawks blew past the Golden Eagles 11-0. With that win, the Valley Hawks brought their scoring average up to 6.4 runs per game.
The team relied heavily on Jake Hernigle, who fired off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 2-for-2. He is also on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Ethan Richardson, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Duanesburg pushed their record up to 7-3 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for Fonda-Fultonville, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Duanesburg has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Fonda-Fultonville struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Duanesburg was able to grind out a solid win over Fonda-Fultonville in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, winning 6-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
