Baseball Recap: Wagener-Salley Comes Up Short

Wagener-Salley came into their game on Tuesday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 15-6 to the Williston-Elko Blue Devils. The War Eagles have struggled against the Blue Devils recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost meeting.

Wagener-Salley saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gavin Starnes, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. The War Eagles are 2-1 when Starnes posts two or more runs, but 4-8 otherwise. Another was Jaxon Barnett, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run.

Wagener-Salley's defeat dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Williston-Elko, they have been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wagener-Salley will face off against Pelion at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Williston-Elko, they will square off against Hampton County at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
