Softball Recap: South Laurel Wins Going Away Against Somerset

South Laurel barely beat Somerset the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The South Laurel Cardinals were the clear victor by a 12-2 margin over the Somerset Briar Jumpers on Friday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Kenzie Williams made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off one hit. Williams was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with three RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted three or more RBI the last three times she's played.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bailey Frazier, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in hits. The team also got some help courtesy of R Bretz, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.

The win got South Laurel back to even at 1-1. As for Somerset, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 1-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. South Laurel will hit the road for the first time this season to challenge Southwestern at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Somerset, they will challenge Whitley County at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
