Softball Recap: Landstown Has No Trouble Against Salem

Landstown won against Tallwood on Thursday with eight runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Tuesday. The Eagles blew past the Salem Sundevils 8-2. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 8-7 back in March.

Hailey Akers made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Gabriella Perez was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three runs. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Aleigh Earp also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Landstown hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are 3-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.

The victory made it two in a row for Landstown and bumps their season record up to 6-10. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 5 runs in those games. As for Salem, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-9.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Landstown will take on Manor at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Mustangs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.47 runs per game on average), something the Eagles will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Salem, they will square off against Bayside at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
