Soccer Game Preview: Piedmont vs. Castro Valley

The Piedmont Highlanders will challenge the Castro Valley Trojans at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Neither squad made it on the board the last time they hit the pitch, so they've probably got a bit of extra motivation.

Piedmont fell victim to Berkeley and their airtight defense on Friday. They took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Yellowjackets. While losing is never fun, the Highlanders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 620th, while the Yellowjackets are ranked 80th).

Meanwhile, Castro Valley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were a single goal away from ending the streak, but they lost a 1-0 heartbreaker at the hands of Bishop O'Dowd.

Castro Valley now has a losing record at 4-5-1. As for Piedmont, their defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 0-1-3 and their overall record down to 2-5-4.

Piedmont came out on top in a nail-biter against Castro Valley in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, sneaking past 1-0. Does Piedmont have another victory up their sleeve, or will Castro Valley turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
