Basketball Recap: Hobart Takes a Loss

Hobart was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were dealt an 87-51 loss at the hands of the South Bend Washington Panthers. While losing is never fun, the Brickies can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 221st, while the Panthers are ranked 24th).

When it comes to explaining why Hobart lost, don't look at Ryan Basham. Despite the final result, he went 10 of 19 on his way to 25 points and eight rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Basham a new career-high in assists (four). Another player making a difference was Paxson Hicko, who posted 11 points.

Even though they lost, Hobart was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

It was another big night for Steven Reynolds, who dropped a double-double on 50 points and 11 boards for South Bend Washington. Reynolds is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down ten or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of DaKori Parker, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine assists.

Hobart now has a losing record at 4-5. As for South Bend Washington, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. After both having extra time off, Hobart and Westville will dust off their jerseys to take on one another at 7:00 p.m. on January 10, 2025. Westville is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.9 points per game this season. As for South Bend Washington, they will take on Merrillville at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in South Bend Washington's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
