Baseball Game Preview: Tupelo Golden Wave vs. Madison Central Jaguars

For the second straight game, Tupelo will face off against Madison Central. Tupelo will face off against Madison Central at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Tupelo has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with three straight losses, while Madison Central will come in with four straight wins.

Tupelo fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Madison Central on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took an 18-14 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Jaguars. One positive for the Golden Wave, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.

Tupelo got a good showing from Tanner Brannigan, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

On the hitting side, Tyler Johnson made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and fired off two home runs and four RBI while going 3-for-5. He also scored two runs, which is notable because Tupelo is 4-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 6-7 otherwise. Brody Wilson was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in two of his five plate appearances.

Even though they lost, Tupelo kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in March of 2024.

Madison Central pushed their record up to 8-2 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Tupelo, their defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 10-8.
