Basketball Recap: Smithfield Comes Up Short

After flying high against York last Thursday, Smithfield came back down to earth. The Smithfield Packers were dealt a 67-22 defeat at the hands of the Grafton Clippers on Tuesday. The Packers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 46-9.

It was another big night for Taylor Ragland, who dropped a triple-double on 29 points, 12 boards, and 14 steals for Grafton. That makes it seven consecutive games in which Ragland has scored at least a third of Grafton's points. Another player making a difference was Hope Barnard, who went 8 for 18 en route to 18 points.

Smithfield's loss dropped their record down to 5-8. As for Grafton, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 10-3.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Bruton the next time they take the court. Smithfield will host Bruton at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, while Grafton will head out to face them at 6:00 p.m. on January 28th.
