Baseball Game Preview: Mattoon Greenwave vs. Althoff Catholic Crusaders

The Mattoon Greenwave will challenge the Althoff Catholic Crusaders at 11:00 a.m. on Friday.

Mattoon is headed into the match having just suffered their biggest loss since May 4, 2024 on Thursday. They came up short against Memphis University School, falling 15-6.

Mattoon saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Madden Johnson, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance gave Johnson a new career-high in hits. Another was Shayden Neff, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, it was close, but on Thursday Althoff Catholic sidestepped Geneseo for a 2-1 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Crusaders.

Josh McPherson looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

On the hitting side, Bo Gomric was excellent, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while going 1-for-2.

Althoff Catholic's victory bumped their record up to 2-0. As for Mattoon, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.
