Baseball Recap: Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Extends Road Winning Streak to Four

Pharr-San Juan-Alamo won the last time they faced Harlingen and things went their way on Thursday too. The Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Bears came out on top in a nail-biter against the Harlingen Cardinals, sneaking past 6-4. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bears.

Nyles Alvarez and Jesse Garza made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Alvarez didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Garza tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the most strikeouts Alvarez has posted since back in March of 2024. At bat, Alvarez scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2, while Garza scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jai Arenas, who scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-3. He has been hot recently, having posted two or more stolen bases the last three times he's played. Matt Gamez also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Pharr-San Juan-Alamo pushed their record up to 9-3-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for Harlingen, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-6.

Coming up, Pharr-San Juan-Alamo will take on Los Fresnos at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Harlingen, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Harlingen Cardinals take on Edinburg Bobcats at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
