Basketball Game Preview: Gering Bulldogs vs. Lexington Minutemen

Gering is on a six-game streak of home losses also dating back to last season, Lexington a 15-game streak of away losses also dating back to last season, but someone's luck will change on Saturday. The Gering Bulldogs will welcome the Lexington Minutemen at 7:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Gering came up into this matchup off a tough 25-point loss back in December of 2024. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Douglas by a score of 67-65 two weeks ago.

Meanwhile, Lexington took a blow against Holdrege on Friday, falling 74-33. While losing is never fun, the Minutemen can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 246th, while the Dusters are ranked 17th).

Gering's defeat dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Lexington, their loss dropped their record down to 1-8.

Gering didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Lexington in their previous matchup back in February of 2018, but they still walked away with a 63-57 victory. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Lexington's Andrew Saiz, who went 7 of 15 on his way to 22 points and six rebounds. Now that he won't be playing on Saturday, will it be easier for Gering to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
