Baseball Game Preview: Bridgeport Bearcats vs. Bentley Bulldogs

The Bridgeport Bearcats will head out to face off against the Bentley Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Bridgeport has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with 18 straight losses, while Bentley will come in with four straight victories.

Bridgeport fell victim to Garber and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 15-0 to the Dukes, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior.

Meanwhile, Bentley owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Monday. Everything went their way against Genesee Christian as they made off with a 6-0 win. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by six runs or more this season.

Hunter Trottier was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out nine over 6.1 innings pitched. He is becoming a predictor of Bentley's success: when he posts at least eight strikeouts the team is undefeated (and 4-7 when he doesn't). Trottier was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.

Trottier wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Dominic Star, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base. Star has become a key player for Bentley: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 5-6 otherwise.

The victory got Bentley back to even at 7-7. As for Bridgeport, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-7.

Bridgeport might still be hurting after the 13-0 loss they got from Bentley in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Bearcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
