Herron is a perfect 3-0 against Horizon Christian since May of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Achaeans will welcome Horizon Christian at 5:30 p.m. Herron has given up an average of 9.2 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Herron couldn't beat Warren Central on Thursday even though they stacked five runs on them in the third inning. The Achaeans came up short against the Warriors, falling 19-7.
Taylor Cotham made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayla Page, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Horizon Christian hadn't done well against Irvington Preparatory Academy recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. Horizon Christian's pitchers stepped up to hand Irvington Preparatory Academy a 19-0 shutout. Horizon Christian might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matches by six runs or more this season.
Victoria Kiger and Lucy Long were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Kiger tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Long pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Kiger has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. At the plate, Kiger got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three RBI and two runs, while Long went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs and one double. That's the most RBI Kiger has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cambria Hathaway, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Samantha Mikulla, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Horizon Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .583. They are a perfect 10-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
The victory made it two in a row for Horizon Christian and bumps their season record up to 12-3. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 4 runs in those games. As for Herron, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-10 record this season.
Friday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Herron has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .471. However, it's not like Horizon Christian struggles in that department as they've averaged .519. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Herron's way against Horizon Christian in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as Herron made off with a 17-2 victory. Will the Achaeans repeat their success, or do Horizon Christian have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
