Baseball Recap: Westmont Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Westmont had lost five games straight , but after bumping their record up to 5-19-1 on Friday that streak is in the rearview. They never let the Santa Teresa Saints get on the board and left with a 7-0 victory. The Warriors not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since March 8th (when they won 11-0).

Peyton Hines made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Westmont is 2-1 when Hines posts three or more hits, but 3-18-1 otherwise.

In other batting news, Roman Soto was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Kainoa Raub, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.

Westmont was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

As for Santa Teresa, their defeat was their seventh straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 10-13. Having soared to a lofty 16 runs in the game before, their shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

On Santa Teresa's side, they saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Andres Cedillo, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.

Coming up, Westmont is taking a road trip to take on Willow Glen at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Rams will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something the Warriors surely won't give up without a fight. As for Santa Teresa, they will host Christopher at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
