Basketball Recap: Heritage Takes a Loss

Heritage was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 11th straight defeat. The game between them and the Moreno Valley Vikings didn't end well, with the Heritage Patriots falling 66-51. While losing is never fun, the Patriots can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1125th, while the Vikings are ranked 497th).

Zyetice Hayes was the offensive standout of the matchup as he posted 17 points. Those 17 points gave him a new career-high. Alijah Maloid was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Heritage's loss dropped their record down to 4-17. As for Moreno Valley, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-8 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Heritage will square off against Orange Vista at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Orange Vista knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past nine games -- so hopefully Heritage likes a good challenge. As for Moreno Valley, they will challenge Canyon Springs at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Moreno Valley is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.1 points per game this season.
