Baseball Recap: Greater Nanticoke Area's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

There's no place like home for Greater Nanticoke Area, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Monday. They came out on top against the Berwick Bulldogs by a score of 6-1 on Wednesday. The win was some much needed relief for the Trojans as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.

Derek Miller made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Greater Nanticoke Area is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 0-6 otherwise. Miller was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one double and one RBI. That RBI marked the first that he brought in this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Treyton Mishanski, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. He is becoming a predictor of Greater Nanticoke Area's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 0-6 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Derek Shemanski, who scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-4.

Greater Nanticoke Area picked up their first home victory, bumping their record up to 2-7. As for Berwick, they dropped their record down to 1-7 with the defeat, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Greater Nanticoke Area will square off against Wilkes-Barre at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Wolfpack's pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so the Trojans' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Berwick, they will face off against Dallas at 4:15 p.m. on Friday.
