Softball Recap: Washington Comes Up Short

Washington extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 14 on Monday, dropping their season record down to 0-9 in the process. They came up short against the Evansville Bosse Bulldogs, falling 15-7. The Hatchets were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bulldogs apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Ellycia Shartzer was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four stolen bases, and two runs. That home run was her first of the season.

Evansville Bosse's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-6. Their offense finally found a way to get into gear: the high-octane performance was a 180-degree turn from their last six games.

On Evansville Bosse's side, Kaili Graupner was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over 6.2 innings while giving up five earned (and two unearned) runs off ten hits (and only one walk). Graupner was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Chiara Nash was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Millie Christie, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Washington will face off against Lawrenceville at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Evansville Bosse, they will welcome Evansville Memorial at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
