Baseball Recap: Westchester Country Day Triumphs

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Wesleyan Christian Academy, Westchester Country Day was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out the Greensboro Day School Bengals 8-7. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 17-4 on April 8th.

Jesse Covington made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Covington wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kaline Burr-Ellis, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Westchester Country Day is undefeated when Burr-Ellis posts two or more runs, but 1-11 otherwise.

Westchester Country Day's record is now 5-11. As for Greensboro Day School, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-8.

Looking ahead, Westchester Country Day will take on Caldwell Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The last five games the Eagles have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Greensboro Day School, they will face off against Wesleyan Christian Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
