Baseball Recap: Woonsocket Picks Up Seventh Straight Win on the Road

On Wednesday Woonsocket's undefeated season almost came to an end. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Scituate Spartans a 1-0 shutout. Those one runs were actually the fewest the Villa Novans have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.

Not much got past Patrick Munger, who gave up just two hits and racked up eight Ks to keep Scituate off the board. Munger has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Woonsocket's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Jullian De Jesus, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Woonsocket pushed their record up to 11-0 with the win, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Scituate, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 5-4 record.

Looking ahead, Woonsocket will face off against Burrillville at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. The Villa Novans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Broncos have averaged an impressive 7.3 runs per game this season. As for Scituate, they will take on West Warwick at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Spartans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wizards have averaged an impressive 7.5 runs per game this season.
