Baseball Recap: Hughesville Comes Up Short

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Hughesville can now relate to. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 1-0 to the Berks Catholic Saints, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The Spartans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Graden Dohl was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). Hughesville is 9-4 when Dohl allows two or fewer earned runs, but 4-5 otherwise.

At the plate, Hughesville saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dylan McConnell, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.

Hughesville's defeat dropped their record down to 13-9. As for Berks Catholic, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-7 record this season.

Hughesville does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Berks Catholic, they will face off against Notre Dame-Green Pond on Thursday. The Crusaders will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something the Saints surely won't give up without a fight.
