Softball Game Preview: East Jessamine Jaguars vs. Madison Southern Eagles

The East Jessamine Jaguars will square off against the Madison Southern Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. East Jessamine will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Monday as neither East Jessamine nor West Jessamine made it on the board until the sixth inning. The Jaguars came out on top against the Colts by a score of 5-1.

Hillary Stansbury spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Alex Smith, who went 1-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. Natalie Alimento was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: East Jessamine kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as West Jessamine only managed three hits.

Madison Southern couldn't beat Franklin County on Wednesday even though they stacked four runs on them in the first inning. The Eagles lost 14-6 to the Flyers. The Eagles haven't had much luck with the Flyers recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.

Lexie Keener made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

East Jessamine pushed their record up to 18-22 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Madison Southern, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-11.

East Jessamine beat Madison Southern 10-5 in their previous matchup back in May of 2023. Do the Jaguars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
