Brother Rice extended the longest winning streak in Catholic Central this week by beating Seaholm, 34-7. The victory was the 11th in a row for the team.
University of Detroit Jesuit and Oak Park played the most contested game in the league this week, with University of Detroit Jesuit eventually emerging with a 14-8 victory.
Brother Rice's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Alex Malzone threw for 232 and 2 touchdowns and Corey Lacanaria had 105 yards receiving. On the ground Shon Powell chipped in 54 yards. Grant Perry helped Brother Rice's passing attack out by catching 4 balls for 60 yards.
He went 17-22 with 1 interception.
Powell was the best running back in the league this week. In 18 carries, he ran for 54 yards as Albert Fracassa's team bested the Maples. Teammate Jason Alessi added to the ground attack by rushing for 33 yards.
Brother Rice's offense cannot be tamed this season and the Warriors feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Malzone has thrown for 2,160 yards and 16 touchdowns this season, while Lacanaria has 48 catches for 814 yards.
At the moment, the Cubs are in third, while the Warriors are in first.
Brother Rice took down Seaholm 34-7 last week, the largest margin of any game. Malzone ran for 17 yards during the win.
