Benicia has gone 8-2 against Northgate recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Panthers will take on the Broncos at 4:30 p.m. Benicia's pitching crew has only allowed 4.1 runs per game this season, so Northgate's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Things were looking good for Benicia after they put the first run on the board on Tuesday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of College Park by a score of 4-3.
Alana Robinson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits.
On the hitting side, Ava Rojas was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Leilani Andrews was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run.
Meanwhile, Northgate hadn't done well against Clayton Valley Charter recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Broncos put the hurt on the Ugly Eagles with a sharp 9-2 victory. The Broncos might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matches by seven runs or more this season.
Northgate also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Ashley Herman gave up only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits and racked up 11 Ks. Herman has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Addison Baxter, who went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophie Hanko, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Northgate has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-10 record this season. As for Benicia, their loss dropped their record down to 13-10.
Benicia came up short against Northgate in their previous meeting two weeks ago, falling 8-4. Can the Panthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
