Softball Recap: Parkland Wins Going Away Against Hanks

Parkland won the last time they faced Hanks and things went their way on Friday too. Parkland put the hurt on Hanks with a sharp 11-1 win. The Matadors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten contests by eight runs or more this season.

Samantha Martinez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Parkland got a massive performance out of Faith Avila, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one triple. Another player making a difference was Devyn Rodriguez, who scored three runs while going 3-for-3.

Parkland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .613. They are a perfect 10-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

The victory made it two in a row for Parkland and bumps their season record up to 13-10. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 1 runs in those games. As for Hanks, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 13-7-1.

Coincidentally, Parkland and Hanks will both be playing Del Valle the next time they take the field. Parkland will head out to face Del Valle at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while Hanks will host them at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
