Basketball Preview: Frederick Golden Eagles vs. Niwot Cougars
Frederick is 9-1 against the Cougars since January of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Frederick Golden Eagles will be playing in front of their home fans against the Niwot Cougars at 5:30 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Frederick has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They received a tough blow on Saturday as they fell 57-42 to Riverdale Ridge. Frederick has not had much luck with the Ravens recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Gabby Jima put forth a good effort for the losing side as she scored 12 points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Niwot's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their seventh straight defeat. They were dealt a 59-14 defeat at the hands of Thompson Valley. Niwot was already down big by the end of the third quarter and they stayed that way after failing to score in the fourth.
Frederick's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-6. As for Niwot, they dropped their record down to 3-15 with that loss, which was their ninth straight at home.
Everything came up roses for Frederick against the Cougars in their previous matchup back in January as the team secured a 62-12 victory. With Frederick ahead 34-8 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
