The Desert Christian Eagles will head out to square off against the San Miguel Vipers at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Desert Christian proved they can win big on Thursday (they won by 17) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They won by a run and slipped past Horizon Honors 11-10. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win Desert Christian has posted since April 6, 2024.
Ethan Craig was excellent, scoring a run while getting on base in five of his six plate appearances. Eric Williams was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-5.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for San Miguel, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They put the hurt on ALA - Anthem South with a sharp 12-2 victory on Monday. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Vipers' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Anibal Trejo made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). Those hits marked the first that he allowed this season. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. What's more, he posted two hits, the most he's had since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Albert Mendoza, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. Those runs were his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Emmanuel Flores, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
San Miguel always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .688. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Desert Christian's record is now 3-7. As for San Miguel, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-8.
Everything went Desert Christian's way against San Miguel when the teams last played back in February of 2024, as Desert Christian made off with a 20-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Desert Christian since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
