Softball Game Preview: Thornton Wildcats vs. Thornwood Thunderbirds

Thornton hasn't had much luck against Thornwood recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Wildcats will face off against the Thunderbirds at 4:30 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Thornton is headed into Tuesday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 18th straight game dating back to last season on Monday. They came up short against Crete-Monee, falling 18-8.

Chloe Shotwell made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run. Taylor Woods also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Meanwhile, Thornwood fell victim to Kankakee and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They lost 18-0 to the Kays. The Thunderbirds' defeat continues a trend for the team, making it three in a row.

Thornwood's loss dropped their record down to 7-5. As for Thornton, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-7.

Tuesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Thornton has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .550. However, it's not like Thornwood struggles in that department as they've averaged .635. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
