Preview: Gaston Christian Eagles vs. Gaston Day Spartans
Two dominant players in Makoi Mabor Marier and Braylen Todd are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Gaston Christian Eagles will head out on the road to challenge the Gaston Day Spartans at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Gaston Christian is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
Gaston Christian pushed their score all the way to 56 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 68-56 to Concord Academy.
Meanwhile, even though Hickory Grove Christian scored an imposing 63 points on Friday, Gaston Day still came out on top. Gaston Day took down Hickory Grove Christian 81-63. The win was familiar territory for Gaston Day who now have three in a row.
Gaston Day found their leader in underclassman Griffen Simpson, who scored 21 points. Simpson continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Kurt Hunter, who scored 14 points.
Gaston Christian now has a losing record at 12-13. As for Gaston Day, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-8 record this season.
Gaston Christian strolled past Gaston Day in their previous meeting back in February of 2023 by a score of 50-35. Will Gaston Christian repeat their success, or does Gaston Day have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
