Basketball Recap: Maricopa Takes a Loss

Maricopa lost against Catalina Foothills back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Maricopa Rams were outmatched by the Catalina Foothills Falcons and fell 68-22. While losing is never fun, the Rams can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 221st, while the Falcons are ranked 30th).

When it comes to explaining why Maricopa lost, don't look at Kaliha Norwood. Despite the final result, she almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds. Norwood is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games she's played. Jenifer Gordoa was another key player, putting up four points along with five rebounds and three steals.

Clara Mae Hager was her usual excellent self, going 9 of 21 en route to 25 points in addition to seven steals and six boards for Catalina Foothills. That's the most rebounds Hager has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kayanna Chief, who posted eight points along with six boards and four steals.

Maricopa has been struggling recently as they've lost 12 of their last 15 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-17 record this season. As for Catalina Foothills, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 17-5.

Maricopa has already played their next matchup (against Canyon del Oro), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Catalina Foothills will head out on the road to face off against Casa Grande at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Catalina Foothills is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56 points per game this season.
