Baseball Recap: Utica Gets the Win

Utica was not the first on the board on Wednesday, but they got there more often. They came out on top against the L'Anse Creuse North Crusaders by a score of 7-4. This was a revenge game for the Chieftains: when they faced off against the Crusaders on Monday, they had to take a 6-1 defeat.

Cole Cubitt tossed a big game, tossing 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Michael Hoppe, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. Logan Simunic was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two RBI.

Utica was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. They are 6-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Utica's record is now 11-18. As for L'Anse Creuse North, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 12-16.

Utica will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Crusaders: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
