Basketball Recap: Pueblo East Piles Up the Points Against Pueblo Central

Pueblo East had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 39.3 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They blew past the Pueblo Central Wildcats, posting a 62-23 victory. The Eagles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten games by 27 points or more this season.

Leading Pueblo East to victory were Ilyne Avila and Haley Cordova. Avila went 6 for 9 on her way to 15 points in addition to eight boards and five blocks, while Cordova went 8 of 13 en route to 19 points. The dominant performance gave Cordova a new career-high in points. Myah Abeyta was another key player, putting up seven points and five steals.

Several Wildcats players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Leyla Padilla, who posted seven points.

Pueblo East has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.0 points per game. As for Pueblo Central, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-11.

Pueblo East will head out to take on Lewis-Palmer at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Pueblo East is facing Lewis-Palmer at the right time seeing as Lewis-Palmer is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Pueblo Central, they will welcome Pueblo Centennial at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
