Preview: Benson Bunnies vs. Omaha South Packers
Benson is on a three-game streak of home losses, Omaha South a six-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change. Having just played yesterday, the Benson Bunnies will get right back to it and host the Omaha South Packers at 7:15 p.m. on February 16th. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Benson pushed their score all the way to 56 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 63-56 to Elkhorn South. Benson has not had much luck with Elkhorn South recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Dominik Rice, who scored 16 points along with five assists and four steals. He is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Benson's lineup was just a bit different on Thursday as Daniel Barfield got a bit more time on the court (52 vs. his season average of 28). They had to suffer through a rough 89-47 loss at the hands of Creighton Prep. Omaha South was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 50-26.
Omaha South's defeat came about despite a quality game from Lou Hodoly, who scored 21 points along with two steals. Hodoly is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight. The team also got some help courtesy of Trayton Marshall, who scored 12 points.
Benson has not been sharp recently as the team has lost eight of their last ten matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-15 record this season. As for Omaha South, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-14.
Friday's matchup is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Benson have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 38.2% of their threes per game.
