Soccer Game Preview: Mountain Brook vs. Oxford

The Mountain Brook Spartans will challenge the Oxford Yellow Jackets at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Mountain Brook comes in on three and Oxford on seven.

Mountain Brook is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Alabama's top teams: Hewitt-Trussville, who was ranked 11th at the time (Mountain Brook was ranked eighth). The Spartans came out on top against the Huskies by a score of 3-1 on Thursday. The score was all tied up 0-0 at the break, but Mountain Brook were the better team in the second half.

They hit Hewitt-Trussville with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Thompson Jones, Luke Pilleteri, and Henry McGahey.

Meanwhile, Oxford made easy work of White Plains on Thursday and carried off a 7-1 win. Considering Oxford have won seven games by more than three goals this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Mountain Brook's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-3-2. Those home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 19 goals over those three contests. As for Oxford, their victory bumped their record up to 11-7-1.

Mountain Brook beat Oxford by a goal in their previous matchup back in April of 2017, winning 2-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Spartans since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
