The Baker Hornets are taking a road trip to face off against the Fairhope Pirates at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Baker is coming into the match hot, having won their last seven games.
On Tuesday, Baker beat St. Paul's Episcopal 7-2.
Madison Smith spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on six hits and racked up 14 Ks. What's more, she gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest she's had over her last six games.
On the hitting side, Nola Havard was excellent, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Kaylee Boddie was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Fairhope made easy work of Satsuma on Tuesday and carried off a 12-1 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Pirates.
Addison Russell made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one walk in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-5 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last 12 contests.
In other batting news, Fairhope got a massive performance out of Emma Stewart, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3. That's the most stolen bases Stewart has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Mia Gates, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5.
Fairhope kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Baker pushed their record up to 19-7 with the win, which was their seventh straight on the road. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for Fairhope, their record now sits at 13-8.
Baker was able to grind out a solid win over Fairhope in their previous matchup on March 6th, winning 7-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for Baker since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
