Softball Recap: West Morgan Takes a Loss

West Morgan dropped their record down to 8-20-1 on Thursday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Lawrence County Red Devils, falling 9-3. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Red Devils this season, with their most recent defeat being a 17-6 loss back in March.

As for Lawrence County, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 36-10-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games.

For Lawrence County's part, Raegan Johnson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits. Johnson has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on AB McKay, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and two runs. Emily Byars was another key player, earning three runs and three stolen bases.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. West Morgan will be taking part in a tournament against Sulligent at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Lawrence County, they will venture away from home to take on Austin at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
