Softball Game Preview: Pearl Pirates vs. Richland Rangers

The Pearl Pirates will take on the Richland Rangers at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Pearl is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season.

Last Thursday, Pearl earned a 5-1 win over Oak Grove. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Pirates.

Lilly Byrd was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. What's more, she posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Lauryn Lee was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. That triple marked the first that she hit this season.

Meanwhile, Richland lost 11-5 to Lawrence County on Thursday. The Rangers haven't had much luck with the Cougars recently, as the team has come up short the last eight times they've met.

Pearl's victory bumped their record up to 12-7. As for Richland, their loss dropped their record down to 4-3.

Pearl beat Richland 9-4 when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Do the Pirates have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Rangers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
